Kitzsteinhorn

mountain of a thousand options

Towering high above the village, the Kitzsteinhorn is Kaprun's local mountain and offers visitors a huge range of options from hiking to mountain biking.

It is part of the Hohe Tauern Mountains, a range home to many summits over 3,000 metres. The Kitzsteinhorn itself is the only mountain in the Salzburger Land over 3,000 metres and is home to the only glacier ski resort in the region as well. Hikers will find a huge network of walking trails, while mountain bikers can take on some challenging downhill trails. And for those who haven't had enough of the white stuff in winter, there is plenty of snow here from autumn all the way through until early summer. If the weather gods are smiling, you might even be lucky enough to carve fresh powder tracks in spring!

Kaprun's state-of-the-art cable cars whisk visitors up to 3,000 metres above sea level in the blink of an eye. High above the clouds awaits a fascinating alpine world accessible all year round. The highlights up here in the heart of the Alps include Salzburg's highest viewing platform, known as TOP OF SALZBURG – GIPFELWELT 3000, plus a large network of walking, hiking and biking trails.

An award-winning nature documentary, the National Park Gallery, a 360-metre-long underground tunnel and, last but certainly not least, the fabulous views of the Hohe Tauern National Park with the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain, make for a wonderful experience. Don't forget to check out the ICE ARENA in winter. In summer we recommend a guided walk with one of the friendly and knowledgable National Park Rangers.
