The gorge was carved through the mountain many millions of years ago by the Kapruner Ache. It is this river which traverses the 320-metre-long Sigmund Thun Klamm today, winding its way past glistening rock and jungle-like vegetation. Visitors can experience the incredible power of nature up close thanks to a network of paths and wooden walkways also suitable for children.

The nature learning trail with several information stations provides an insight into the nearby Klammsee lake. Did you know, for example, that the river flowing through the gorge has been used for centuries to float huge trees felled in the mountains above down into the valley?

Travel back in time with a visit to the Sigmund Thun Klamm, where men who once felled trees in the mountains above carved their names into the rock. We recommend a visit to the Kaprun Museum in a 400-year-old farmhouse on the Kirchbichl mountain.
